Dealing with Border Collie Problems

There are few Border Collie problems like health issues that the dog owners need to be aware of and learn how to tackle. A genetic disease called Hip Dysplasia can range in severity among different dogs of the same breed. This disease can be quite agonizing for the dogs, and the owners may find that the dog to be either limping slowly or finding it very difficult to get up from a resting position. However, this disease is highly manageable and can be controlled by giving the dog either food supplements or vitamins suggested by the local veterinarian.

Collie Eye Anomaly is another one of the common Border Collie problems that owners of this breed of dogs have to face. This disease maybe hereditary and it usually affects the retina, choroid and sclera of the dog’s eye causing an uncharacteristic development. Normally, this disease is very rare and does not damage a dog’s eye and it maybe a mild disease when compared to Hip Dysplasia. These dogs may also suffer from another disease called Epilepsy, which can be controlled by medication. If the disease is left uncontrolled, the dog may suffer from seizures.

Owners have to face few other Border Collie problems, and one among them is the disease that affects the joints of the dog known as Osteochrondritis. This disease may be caused due to multiple factors such as environment, heredity or diet. The dogs may also suffer from some rare diseases like Elbow Dysplasia and Neuronal Ceriod Lipofuscinosis. These three diseases are fortunately found very rarely in Collie dogs, but if affected they could be severe and the dog may not survive for more than two years.

Another one of the most common Border Collie problems that owners have to face is the separation anxiety. They feel very sad or maybe lonely when they do not see anyone around in the house. It is necessary to make your dog feel part of the family and include its active participation in all family outings and activities. Sometimes this dog may become aggressive. For this the dog has to be trained on a daily basis and shown that the owner is the master.

Digging the ground or the floor is another typical Border Collie problems that owners must learn to resolve. The collie dogs may do this as they maybe feeling bored and restless, or due to their excess energy. This problem can be easily solved by keeping your dog busy or making it exercise or allowing it to play with your children to draw its attention away from the problem. Another typical problem that these dogs have is barking. They either bark when they are extremely hungry, or feel frightened or threatened, but if they continue to bark excessively then it becomes a serious problem. They must be taught not to bark without any reason at all.

Finally, one of the typical Border Collie problems that dog owners have to face is the habit of chewing anything they find around the house. The owners can easily resolve this problem by spraying something that causes an unpleasant smell on the object. These products are available in any local pet store. You can also teach and use the command “leave it” whenever you see your dog trying to chew on something.

All the owners can easily resolve the Border Collie problems by taking precautions and caring for the safety of their loved pets.
